At least he thinks he was…he can’t really remember, despite only having one or two beers.
As of late, Nicki Minaj has shed the wigs and extreme makeup for a more natural look. With the look has come a change in her music, the Queens MC getting back to her hip-hop roots. There’s no denying that Nicki has held her own on tracks with some of the biggest names in the game and now she is putting her foot down and saying that she no longer wants to be considered just a “female rapper”.
“I do not see myself as a female rapper anymore, I’m sorry,” Minaj told MTV News during an interview. “I see myself as a rapper. I’ve worked with the greats and I’ve held my own with the greats and they respect me,” she continued. “So I should respect myself enough to see myself the same way they see themselves.”
The two singles, “Lookin Ass Nigga” and “Chi-Raq” are a far cry from the poppy sounds we heard on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and it seems as if her upcoming album will have a much grittier sound.-Peter Walsh

During the early ‘90s, a young fashion designer by the name of Tommy Hilfiger took his ‘Hilfiger’ clothing line public and reached unthinkable heights. Hilfiger’s threads were a staple in the hip-hop community during the 90s and rappers were instrumental in helping Hilfiger attain his success.
Hilfiger recently sat down with Bloomberg Businessweek for an interview to discuss his rise, fall and eventual comeback in the fashion industry. As the interview wore on, the designer spoke on the impact of hip-hop on his business. “Look, it fueled a lot of growth, but it took us away from our roots,” says Hilfiger. “When people ask me advice, I say stick to who you are. Stick to your guns. There is an image and attitude to most brands and that’s really important. I like to stick to my heritage and not chase trends and at that point we were chasing trends. Chasing trends was easy but it was dangerous. It’s more important to me now to be consistent.”
Hilfiger came under fire in the later ‘90s for apparently making negative remarks about the brand’s popularity amongst minority communities on an unaired episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Hilfiger sat down with Oprah in 2007 to address the rumors about the comments and the speculated interview which lives on in internet immortality.—G. Valentino Ball

Looks like Chris Brown will be kicking off the summer behind bars as his request to leave jail while he awaits trial has been denied. USA Today reports Superior Court Judge Victor Greenberg denied Brown’s request Wednesday to release him from custody on bail.
Breezy’s trial has been scheduled for June 25. If convicted Brown would serve a maximum of six months in addition to four years for violating probation stemming from the Rihanna case.
Chris Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy whom confessed to punching the victim, was convicted of misdemeanor assault last week, which should help Brown’s approaching hearing.

Remember when you were in the 8th grade and you were sitting with your friend Cecelia when your other Ruby walked by and you went, “Hey, Ruby.” Then Cecelia rolled her eyes, smacked her lips and said, “I hate that bitch,” and you went, “Cecelia, Ruby is my friend, okay,” and Cecelia went, “Well, your little freeeend is a two-faced ugly bitch,” and you went, “Ugh, whatever, SAY-SEAL-YAH” before storming off all dramatic-like. Then two weeks later when Cecelia asked you to sign her yearbook, you wrote, “Have a hot fucking summer xoxoxo RUBY’S FRIEND.” Well, that situation pretty much repeated itself at a restaurant in the Wynn Las Vegas two weeks ago except the part of Cecelia was played by casino mogul Steve Wynn, the part of you was played by George Clooney and the part of Ruby was played by President Obama.
Norm Clarke of The Las Vegas Review-Journal says that a 52-year-old white millionaire got into a bitch fight with a 72-year-old white billionaire when Obama’s name came up. Two rich whores having a drunken, messy fight over politics isn’t exactly news, but these two melodramatic pissy messes made it news by burping up hilariously bitchy statements about that night to Norm Clarke. George says that Steve Wynn is a ranting mess who insulted his best friend President Obama. Steve Wynn says that George Clooney is an angry, delusional drunk. YES! I love it when two old rich bitches bring the drama and start scratching at each other. Pass the popped caviar and a Big Gulp full of Krug Brut.
George and Steve were having dinner and drinking tequila with a bunch of other people when George got heavily offended over Steve calling his best friend forever Obama “an asshole.” In an email through his publicist, George spit out this bitchy bitch slap:
“He called the president an asshole … that is a fact … I said the President was my longtime friend and then he said ‘your friend is an asshole.’ … At that point I told Steve that HE was an asshole and I wasn’t going to sit at his table while he was being such a jackass. And I walked out. There were obviously quite a few more adjectives and adverbs used by both of us. Those are all the facts. It had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with character.”
Steve’s version is a little different. Steve says that some CAA agent at the table made a joke about Mikhail Gorbachev and since George Clooney can’t handle his tequila and booze turns him into a delicate b-hole, he threw a tantrum and dramatically left the restaurant. The billionaire who kind of looks like a Wayne Newton statue made out of crispy bacon fat then channeled Jennifer North from Valley of the Dolls, but instead of saying, “You know how bitchy fags can be,” he basically said, “You know how bitchy actors can be.”
“He stood up and threw a hissy fit. Then he sat down and started talking about the Affordable Care Act, and that’s when I spoke up. He didn’t like that either. I think my discussion about the Affordable Care Act was the straw that broke the camel’s back. When he’s drinking, he considers himself a close personal buddy of the president. He got up and said, ‘I don’t have to listen to this (expletive) stuff.’ The only person who got excited at the table was George, and he ran off to another bar. Clooney’s fun to be with when he’s sober. If you have a chance to drink with him, you want to get there early, and don’t stay late. Everybody who’s in my business, the casino business, knows to take actors with a grain of salt.”
Norm Clarke couldn’t ask the other people at the table what really happened because most of them died from second-hand embarrassment while watching two rich assholes try to out-asshole each other as their egos exploded. I’m Team NO ONE, but I did throw out a slow clap for Steve Wynn, because that Las Vegas-faced mess can throw shade. “...Take actors with a grain of salt.” Those are fighting words that will start a dance-off!

During an in-depth interview with NPR, Nasty Nas spoke on a litany of topics including artists like Jay Electronica and ScHoolBoy Q motivating him to make new music, Oprah, J.Cole, meeting A Tribe Called Quest as a teenager, the making of Illmatic, and what young rappers he currently listens to. More importantly, Nas revealed that he is working on a new album with a few heavy hitters on the production team.
According to Nas, the album will feature Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and No I.D. “I started working with [Timbaland], I want to say a year and a half ago,” says Nas. “I think it was the same year I dropped my last album, Life is Good.“ I started with Tim, and it felt really powerful.” Nas continued, “I talked to Swizz, and we went through joints. And No I.D. This the only interview I’ma talk about it, ’cause I know once this comes out, people might ask me about the record and, man, I just want to finish it and get it done.”
The interview is definitely worth a full listen if you have the time and Nas, as always, drops gems throughout.-Peter Walsh

J. Cole’s second mixtape, The Warm Up, is turning five in June and he’s celebrating with a new tour.
The Roc Nation rapper took to Instagram yesterday to reveal a promotional poster for Dollar & A Dream Tour, which will feature Cole performing The Warm Up in full. The tape included his buzzworthy songs “Lights Please,” “Grown Simba” and “Dead Presidents II.”
The dates for the nationwide tour haven’t been announced yet, but J. Cole’s Dreamville crew is anticipating it’ll be really memorable. During Bas’ press run for his debut album, Last Winter, we asked the Queens rapper and longtime friend, manager and business partner Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad their thoughts on the forthcoming tour and what it means for Cole.
“I’m excited for the tour as a fan of his music. I don’t remember seeing those records performed that often. At that point it was a small group of really traveling. I’m real excited just to see the show and seeing how far Cole has come as a showmen and a performer. To see him apply that to those records with a full band, I think it’s gonna be epic.”
Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad
“For me it’s just … the last Dollar & A Dream Tour [was] so exciting because we got to perform records that we never get to perform. And The Warm Up, obviously not just for Cole, but for our whole team like changed our lives. It’s just exciting being able to go back. It’s some records on that tape that have never been performed.
Even when we were first doing The Warm Up, he says he wasn’t the performer as he is now. To be able to do it now with a new fresh state of mind on how to really perform and how to really do a great show … and back then I was DJing. I never DJed in my life. I was DJing off of iTunes and learning Serato just so we can survive on the road.
With the band and with the new idea we have, it’s just gonna be dope. It’s just good to put an importance back on a mixtape that I believe not only changed what we are doing now but I believe changed the way hip-hop has been promoted through labels. Labels are starting to understand that there’s a real fanbase without the singles and it’s being on that road. So, I think it is important to go back to that moment and shed a little light on it.”
